Glesys releases 2024 sustainability report and establishes CSRD-aligned baseline

2025-11-24

Today, Glesys published its 2024 Sustainability Report, marking our first comprehensive disclosure aligned with the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Covering the full 2024 fiscal year, this report establishes the baseline from which we will measure our progress toward long-term sustainability commitments and operational excellence across our Nordic footprint.

2024 Progress and Impact

As Glesys continues to grow and strengthen its position within the digital infrastructure sector, our commitment to environmental sustainability remains a defining principle. This year’s report highlights meaningful progress toward our ambitions, including full operational decarbonization, expanded circularity, and deeper integration of sustainability across our business operations, governance structures, and strategic planning.

Sustainability at Glesys is not treated as a standalone initiative. It is embedded into our core business processes, guiding decisions related to data center development, energy sourcing, supply chain expectations, and community engagement. Our 2024 reporting establishes clear ESG baselines and reinforces our commitment to transparent, science-based reporting in alignment with emerging regulatory requirements.

In 2024, Glesys delivered strong performance across key sustainability indicators, demonstrating that responsible operations and business growth can advance together:

Environmental performance

All Glesys operations were powered by 100% renewable electricity, reducing market-based Scope 2 emissions to 0.22 tonnes CO₂e from district heating. Our group-wide Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.28 outperformed both European and global industry benchmarks, while an Energy Reuse Factor (ERF) of 84% demonstrates significant progress in transforming waste heat into district heating for local communities.

Heat recovery systems supplied 4.8 GWh of energy to district heating networks in Stockholm and Falkenberg, supporting regional sustainability objectives and strengthening local partnerships.

Circular operations

We extended server lifecycles up to 10 years through targeted component-level maintenance—substantially exceeding industry norms. This approach contributed to a 99% waste diversion rate, supporting our zero-landfill commitment and advancing our goal of 90% hardware reuse or recycling by 2026.

Climate leadership

Total market-based emissions in 2024 were 1,956 tonnes CO₂e, establishing a clear and verifiable baseline. We remain committed to reducing Scope 1 emissions by 99% by 2030, including full transition to electric vehicles by 2027 and adoption of fossil-free backup power solutions by 2030. Participation in the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact ensures independent oversight and continued accountability.

Financial and strategic integration

Glesys invested SEK 5.1 million in climate mitigation during 2024, with an additional SEK 10.25 million planned through 2030 to support decarbonization, energy efficiency, and heat recovery expansion. These investments are fully integrated into our strategic planning and capital allocation processes, underscoring the long-term importance of sustainability to our business.

Looking Forward

The publication of the 2024 Sustainability Report marks a significant advancement in Glesys’ sustainability journey. In 2025, we will conduct a double materiality assessment aligned with ESRS requirements to further refine our priorities, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and guide the development of a comprehensive ESG strategy for the coming decade.

We recognize that achieving our long-term goals will require sustained focus, continued investment, and close collaboration with customers, partners, suppliers, and communities. As we progress toward 2030, we remain committed to delivering resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible digital infrastructure that supports both societal and economic development.

Through innovation, circular resource management, and transparent reporting, Glesys will continue to build momentum toward a more sustainable future for our organization and the broader ecosystem we serve.
