Whistlelink’s whistleblowing system set to conquer Europe

2021-08-17

In an industry built on trust, secure information management is everything. With a mission to protect whistleblowers and a vision to deliver the safest and most user-friendly whistleblowing system on the market, Varberg-based Whistleblowing Solutions has attracted customers from across Europe.

It’s busy days for Klas Karlsson, CEO and co-founder of Whistleblowing Solutions. On December 17, the EU directive on stronger whistleblower protection came into effect in Sweden. This legislation requires all employers with 50 or more employees, as well as municipalities with 10,000 or more inhabitants, to establish channels for whistleblowing.

"Our whistleblowing system, Whistlelink, fully complies with the EU directive—covering design, accessibility, and information security. It's also very quick to implement and set up a dedicated website." – Klas Karlsson, CEO at Whistlelink

“In just ten minutes, you have a modern whistleblowing service that ensures the whistleblower’s anonymity in communication with the employer, while guaranteeing that your data never leaves the EU. Since our system is hosted in Sweden, there are several advantages, not least when it comes to meeting GDPR requirements.”

Founded in 2020, Whistleblowing Solutions leverages over nine years of experience through its sister company, Interaktiv Säkerhet. Today, Whistlelink’s reporting channel is available in over 30 languages. With a sales presence in Poland, Germany, Italy, and France, the company has its sights set firmly on the European market.

“Expanding Whistlelink beyond Sweden was always the plan, and we already have hundreds of customers across Europe using our solution. We also work with many partners—mainly law firms and audit firms—who, through our partner program, can offer their clients a complete whistleblowing service.”

Credibility is essential for whistleblowing, particularly when managing sensitive information such as employee or company details. The question of protecting individual privacy has become even more critical since the introduction of GDPR and, more recently, the invalidation of the Privacy Shield agreement.

“Yes, it’s an absolutely central issue. Whistleblowing is by definition about reporting sensitive information. This data must never risk being accessed by external parties simply because it is stored outside the EU,” says Karlsson.

“We’ve worked with software development for a long time and understand the need for secure data management. Security and compliance are in our DNA—they shape everything we do. Customers who choose Whistlelink can feel completely confident in how their data is handled. To further demonstrate this, we are certified under ISO 27001, an international standard for information security management, which confirms that we’ve implemented all possible safeguards.”

What matters most when choosing a hosting provider?

“We look for a provider that takes full responsibility—guaranteeing that all data stays within the EU, offering system management, and taking complete responsibility for operations—so we can focus entirely on developing our service. For us, high availability and uptime are crucial. We need a technical platform with redundancy at every level, backed by processes and expertise to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely.”
